Six Nations is back again!

In case you did not realize, the rugby arrived once again last week and, as always, it delivered. One of the best things about living in Cardiff is the annual nation wide tribute to the six nations rugby competition. With the Millennium Stadium standing tall in the center of town, the hub of rugby day, you cannot avoid being swept up the sports day atmosphere. Being an English born immigrant to Wales I of course bath this week in the glory that was the triumphant win over Wales last Friday.

Decorating the streets with painted faces, scarves and fancy dress the fans came out as strong as ever to show their support for their nations. Finishing lectures early that day I quickly joined the throngs with my own kinsmen from across the severn bridge. We found our drinking hole for the evening and pitched up 4 hours early. Beers obviously flowed thick and fast only adding to the nationalism that had suddenly overwhelmed us, never feeling much more pride singing our anthem in a sea of booing welsh men and women.

Of course by the time the game was in full throttle so had our hunger for beers and so with every cheer and celebration I was showered in glory as well as Guinness and Fosters! However nerve racking the game was, the score board delivered its devastating blow after 80 minutes and like magic the once rammed pub was reduced to a puddle of English supporters in tweed jackets chanting and raving in astonishment. We had won!

This is my fourth competition in Cardiff, and prior to living here I had little to no interest in rugby. However, since the first match day back in 2012 I have made sure not to miss it again and I have no doubt that anybody else starting their Uni life here would suffer the same fate.

The Six Nations Rugby is just unbeatable and to enjoy it from one of the greatest host cities has no comparison! The only way to understand is to get here and see for yourself!
